When did an act of love change everything?

Transcript

When did an act of love change everything? About somewhere between like three to four days before my boss passed away. When I was working as a news reporter in southern Indiana, I had told him that I felt called to go to Divinity School and that I wanted to pivot and use my journalism skills to help people share their stories internationally about the intersection of religion and criminal justice and mental health. And I didn't know how he was going to respond, but he pushed me to follow my dreams. He pushed me to honor the call, and he even connected me with someone that used to work for him and told me to connect with her because she was doing similar work that I want to do in the world. I think what was most revolutionary about the love and care that he showed me in that moment, which I didn't know would be our last one-on-one conversation, was that releasing me from the station and releasing me from the work that I felt led to do in that space would come with major sacrifice, right? Not just for me, but for the community that I was serving, for the station that I was working at. And instead of him choosing himself or the station, he encouraged me to choose me. And I think that is revolutionary love that cannot be imitated or replaced or even duplicated.
